It all started with a pop.
Mimi came home one morning from yoga class and noticed that the tile floor in our family room had popped up 2" in an area 3 ft by 4 ft. We werent really sure what caused it.
I even checked the local seismological website for any earthquakes. Nope.
The cracks in the floor looked like geological faults so we gave them names.
Basically the adhesive had failed and with a bit of expansion the tiles had nowhere to go but up. There are a few other problem areas in the apt but this one was tough to ignore.
We agreed with the landlord that all of the tiles should be replaced. This would necessitate us moving out of the apartment for 3 weeks. Our furniture was all removed, although I am not sure why the TV had to come of the wall.
Once we moved out, it didnt take long for them to nuke the floors.
The apartment is now awash in busted tiles - piles and piles of busted tiles....
We will see how long it takes to complete the work but the demo of the floors is the quick & easy part. Out landlord has set us up in a nice apartment but most of our belongings (clothes, kitchen, pantry, beer etc) are still at the old apartment.
I check in on their progress the way to the new apartment each night (and grab whatever I need for the next day).
This could take awhile.
